In Thai, Tom Yam literally means “sour and spicy.” Commonly prepared with tamarind, lemon, galangal, chili, lemongrass, and fish sauce, it’s then simmered with fresh seafood to create a broth that’s light yet powerful. Loved especially in hot summers for its refreshing kick, Tom Yam is both comforting and invigorating.

Though regarded as a Thai national dish, Tom Yam became popular in Malaysia as early as the 1970s, where it evolved into a version enriched by local cultural influences.

[Cooking Instructions]

Quick & Easy:

  1. Pour 1 pack of Tean’s Gourmet Tom Yam Paste into a pot with 650ml water, bring to a boil.

  2. Add 300g squid, 200g prawns, tomatoes, 100g king oyster mushrooms, 100g corn kernels, and chilies. Boil for 3 minutes.

  3. Garnish with fresh coriander before serving hot.

 

Tips:

  • Add a squeeze of lime juice for extra brightness.

  • Stir-fry tomatoes first for enhanced sweetness.

  • As a hotpot base, adjust water and seafood/vegetables according to group size.
